Senior Curator of the Communities section at the 2011 Gwangju Design Biennale, directed by Ai Wei Wei and Seung y Sang. The Gopher Hole

As part of the 2011 Gwangju Design Biennale, The Gopher Hole hosted an experimental banquet where no traditional eating utensils were provided. Instead diners used syringes, petri dishes and tree branches, and imbibed water and wine through plastic tubing. The performance was designed by Caroline Hobkinson and the food by Blanch & Shock. European curator of the 2009 Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of architecture and urbanism. The biennale's theme was 'City Mobilization', and 60 international artists and architects were asked to come to China and create site-specific installations, research and artworks that contributed to or activated the city and responded to the complex relationship between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The Gopher Hole

The Gopher Hole was one of the host venues for the ground-breaking global event 'TEDx Ramallah'. We screened talks by human rights activists, authors and musicians live from venues in Ramallah, Beirut and Bethlehem.   In addition to the satellite feed from Palestine, William Parry (photojournalist and author of 'Against the Wall: The Art of Resistance in Palestine') and Frank Barat (coordinator of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine)  both gave presentations in person.
